William Dean “Bill” Bishop

William Dean “Bill” Bishop, a beloved father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, passed away on November 19, 2023, in Andrews, Texas. He was born on April 23, 1956, in San Angelo, Texas, to Edward Bishop and Lois “Moser” Bishop. Bill was a man of great faith, love, and service, who touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and dedication.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Glenn Jones officiating. Burial followed at the Andrews County West Cemetery. Visitation was held from 10:00 AM-11:30 AM, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements were under the personal care of Mc-Nett Funeral Home.

Bill was a proud veteran of the US Army Special Forces Green Beret, serving his country in Vietnam with honor and distinction. After his service, he worked as a truck driver in the oil field for many years, a job he loved and performed with dedication and resilience. His hard work and commitment to his community were recognized when he received the Andrews Pioneer award in 2020, a testament to his enduring contribution to the people of Andrews.

A man of many interests, Bill was best known for playing the role of Santa in Andrews for over 30 years. His love for the Christmas holiday shone through in this role, and he brought joy and magic to countless children and families each year. He was also an avid bow hunter, a member of the Andrews Jaycees, and the Mesquite Burners. His adventurous spirit often took him to Las Vegas, a city he loved for its energy and excitement. Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he served and worshipped with unwavering faith.

He is survived by his son, Chris Garrett and wife Julie of Odessa, TX; his daughter, Dede Bowers and husband John of Andrews, TX; his three brothers and four sisters; and his grandchildren, JohnE Bowers, Erin Franklyn, and Emily Wade. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Robin Franklyn and Hudson Wade. Bill is preceded in death by the love of his life, Frankie Garrett, his parents, Edward Bishop and Lois “Moser” Bishop, and one sister.

Bill was a man who loved deeply and lived fully. He adored his wife, Frankie, and their love story was one of genuine partnership and deep affection. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who cherished his family and always prioritized their happiness and well-being. His home was a place of warmth and welcome, where friends and family were always received with open arms.

In remembering Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by service, faith, love, and an unwavering commitment to his community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved, and in the community he served so faithfully. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the memories he created will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him. Rest in peace, Bill. Your life was a gift to us all.
