Weldon Butler, 71 of Brenham, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018.

Visitation was held from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, November 16. A service to celebrate Weldon’s life was held at 10:30am on Saturday, November 17, both at Bren-ham Memorial Chapel.

Lester Weldon Butler was born December 4, 1946 in Midland, Texas to Claude and Ora Nell (Badgett) Butler. Weldon grew up in Goldsmith, Texas with an active family of eight siblings. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1965. He loved drag racing his ’56 Ford. In 1966, he entered the Army. Upon honorable discharge, he continued his education and graduated from Odessa College. He trained show horses.

On February 7, 1975, he was married to Suzanne Seed in Loving-ton, New Mexico. Weldon was family oriented and loved attending family reunions. The family looked forward to fishing trips, camping and water skiing. His grandchildren endured his teasing and enjoyed Reese’s candy especially for them. He taught his sons to be tough, to ride dirt bikes and not to be afraid of hard work. He loved kids and animals.

Weldon worked 30 years as operations manager at Basin Acidizing Company in Odessa. Weldon and Suzanne enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV and reading western novels.

He was a spiritual man and loved God, reading and listening to Bible passages. He was a member of Brenham’s First Baptist Church and also American Legion Buddy Wright Post 48.

He was preceded in death by parents and brothers Leonard Butler and Darrell Butler.

His loving family includes: wife Suzanne Butler; sons and their spouses, James and Tisha Butler of Conroe, Chad and Christin Butler of Midland; honorary son, Otis Shepard of Midland; grandchildren, Taran Butler, Madison Butler, Ginny and James Hicks, Becka Butler, Keely Butler, Gavin Butler, Jake Havercroft and Kirstin Havercroft; siblings, Harold and Margaret Butler, Eddie Butler, Sharon and Pat Cooke, Bobby and Betty Butler, Jerry Butler, Carol and Jim Kennedy.
