Olive Estelle Hooper Munsell

Olive Estelle Hooper Munsell, 87, of Amarillo, TX went home to her Savior on January 8, 2023.

A visitation took place from 5:00 to 8:00PM, Friday, January 13, 2023, at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas. Funeral service will be at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews, Texas at 2:30PM Saturday, January 14, 2023. Officiated by Kevin Bushart. Estelle will be buried at the Old Andrews County Cemetery Estelle was born in Linden, TX on September 25, 1935. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1954 and attended North Texas State University for two years. Estelle lived in Andrews for 50 years before moving to Amarillo in April 2011 to be near her son Kenny. While living in Andrews she was active in the Ocotillo Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Estelle was also a member of the Retired Teachers Organization and the Amoco Retirees. She worked for Amoco for a short period of time in the late 1970s before working as the Registrar at Andrews High School until 1988. After twelve years of retirement, she began substitute teaching in 2000 before retiring again in 2010. Estelle is a member of Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews, TX. She served as the church’s Historian for 5 years and wrote a history of the church. She also created a cross stitch containing much of the church’s history which is on display in the church foyer. In addition to enjoying cross stitch, Estelle was an avid quilter and wrote poetry.

She was preceded in death by her father Lee Von Hooper; her mother Eugenia Wilson Morris Hooper Owens; her son Don (Donnie) Lee Munsell; her sister Sandra Jo Hooper Davis; her sister Merle Janette Hooper Lisenbe; her sister Elizabeth (Libby) Lee Hooper Carter; her brother James Lee Hooper; and her brother David Wright Hooper.

She is survived by her son Kenneth (Kenny) Ray Munsell, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Amarillo, TX; her son Mark Freeman Munsell of Bryan, TX; her sister Mary Linda Hooper Wood and her husband Glen of Leander, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Estelle’s family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Sleepy Hollow in Amarillo and the staff at Enhabit Hospice of Amarillo for their dedicated and compassionate care during her final weeks.
