On Monday, January 25th, 2021, Mary Ann Zapata, loving wife, sister, mother of three, and grandmother of seven passed away at the age of 58.

Mary was born on September 29, 1962 in Loraine, Texas to Celina Dimas and Robert Yanez Vera, Sr. Mary was raised and attended school in Sweetwater, Texas with her five brothers, Israel, Rudy, Ezekiel, Robert, and Paul, and her four sisters, Gracie, Gloria, Celina, and Sophia. On August 17, 1979 Mary married Marco Antonio Zapata, her husband of 41 years. Together, they raised two sons, Marco and Domingo, and one daughter, Melissa in Andrews, Texas.

Throughout her life, Mary placed her family above everything and placed a high value on family and friends. Mary was full of love and laughter, quick to conversation with anyone, and always was happy making new friends. She had a way of saying things exactly the way things needed to be said. Mary loved watching Godzilla movies, westerns, listening to old Mexican music, and loved all of God’s creatures. Above all Mary was known for her compassion and for giving all of herself to help others without ever asking for, or expecting anything in return. She found light hearted humor in almost any situation and her full hearted laugh will be missed by many.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Celina, her father Robert, three brothers, Robert Vera, Jr., Paul Vera, and Ezekiel Vera, and one sister, Celina Vera. She is survived by her husband Marco, her three children and their families, Marco and Becky Zapata of Andrews, Texas, Domingo Zapata of Abilene, Texas, and Melissa and Jeff Butler of Moscow Mills, Missouri, by her seven grandchildren, by two brothers Israel Vera and Rudy Vera, and by three sisters, Gracie Guerrero, Gloria Olguin, and Sophia Granados and their wonderful families.

A private family funeral service were held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, January 28th, 2021 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Pastor Loran Rule officiating. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Phillip Martinez, Carlos Zuniga, Marcelino Granados, Cesar Zapata, Israel Vera, Jeff Butler.
