Margoary Jewel Roberts (Gambrell)

Margoary Jewel Roberts (Gambrell), formerly of Andrews, Texas, passed from this life and into eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 98 on April 13, 2021. Margoary was born to Robert L. Gambrell and Maxine Ritch Gambrell, in Smith County, Texas on January 30, 1923. She graduated from Salem High School (Texas). On December 7, 1941, while attending College at North Texas State, Pearl Harbor was bombed, prompting Margoary to enlist in the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). After WWII, she moved to Fort Worth and worked for The Texas Company, now known as Texaco.

In 1950, Margoary married Edward C. “Pete” Roberts. They lived in Fort Hood until completion of Pete’s service in the Army. In 1953 they moved to the oil fields of West Texas, first living in Frankel City, then moving into “town” (Andrews) in 1960. After Pete passed away in 2006, Margoary moved to Plano, Texas to live with her daughter, Darlene Roberts, and to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margoary was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Mema. She taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Frankel City and in Andrews. She also worked for Montgomery Ward and Piggly Wiggly grocery store. She loved to cook for the family when everyone came to visit. Her chicken spaghetti was a holiday favorite along with pies and cakes, especially fried apricot pies. She enjoyed sewing, making all of her girls’ clothes, quilts, cross stitch, embroidery and, of course, shopping. In later years she really liked to spend time on her iPad, playing games and working puzzles.

Margoary was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Adron Gambrell), and husband.

She is survived by her two daughters Darlene Roberts, of Plano, Denise Pogue and husband Kevin of Granbury, granddaughters Melanie Casey and husband Eric, Desirae Rushing Sias, Kristie Oglesby, grandson Shane Grimm and wife Crystal, greatgranddaughters Ryleigh Casey, Tristyn Oglesby-Watts, Zoe Grimm, great-grandsons Jackson Casey, Devin Rushing, Noah Grimm, Zac Grimm, Colton Davis, and Kamdon Oglesby.

She loved life and her family, and above all else she loved Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and for interment of her cremains at the Andrews North Cemetery on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
