Johnie G. Griffin, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Andrews Texas.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 201 NE 2nd Street, Andrews, Texas, with Pastor Brant O’Connor officiating. Visitation will be from 12 PM to 9 PM on Thursday and 9 AM to 9 PM Friday. The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Johnie was born on November 2, 1936 in Caldwell County, Texas to Johnie Charles Griffin and Bertha Pearl Gifford Griffin. He was raised in Coleman, Texas where he graduated from Coleman High School in 1954. He married Bobbie Fields, the love of his life, on August 2, 1956. After graduating from the University of Texas with a Petroleum Engineering degree in 1960 they moved shortly thereafter to Andrews, Texas. He worked for Amoco Production company from 1968 – 1996 and retired as a District Forman. He enjoyed being a long time member of the Amoco Annuitant Club.

He served on the AISD School Board of Directors and as president from 1976 – 1988. He also served on the Andrews Appraisal Board of Directors from 1992 – 1999. He was involved in Little and Pony League Baseball, where he enjoyed coaching his sons. He also played catcher for a men’s slow pitch softball team. He was a long time and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews where he taught Sunday school classes for the 2nd grade with Maurie Finely. They made sure that no child left their class without knowing the story of salvation.

After his retirement he and Bobbie worked with the Camper’s on a Mission Builders (COM) and Volunteer Christian Builders (VCB), where they helped repair and build churches and church camps all over the United States. They also worked with a local charity, “What Yeshua Can Do”, to bring Christian artists and groups to West Texas communities.

They bought a ranch in Ozona Texas moved there in 2000. They lived on the ranch for 14 wonderful years where he enjoyed hunting and working on his jeep. They moved back to Andrews in 2014 where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Griffin; of Andrews, 3 children and their spouses, Gary Griffin and his wife Jackie, of League City, Nancy Griffin Skopak and husband, John, of Cypress, and Greg Griffin and his wife, Becky Barbee Griffin, of Andrews, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Johnie was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Bertha Griffin, father and mother in law, Al and Mildred Fields, and 2 brothers, Bill Charles Griffin and Joe Pryor Griffin.
