Janie Arlene Stewart Hollowell

Janie Arlene Stewart Hollowell was born on November 17, 1938 to James Edward Stewart and Illa Elene Bilbrey Stewart in Stamford, Texas. She was raised in Andrews, Texas along with her two brothers. She spent a large part of her childhood with Harve and Gladys Stewart, her fraternal grandparents. As a child she also enjoyed going to the Bilbrey’s farm, her maternal grandparents place.

Janie married Carl Glenn Hollowell on May 18, 1956 in Andrews, Texas and started her married life in Alaska as the wife of a soldier. She remained married for 39 years. As a devote Christian, she peacefully passed away in Lubbock, Texas on July 3, 2020 at the age of 81.

One of her greatest accomplishments was not only being a wife, but more importantly being a mother of three children, Jimmy Gail, Carla Ralynn, and Bobby Glenn. Janie, “Renie”, and for the last part of her life “Gran” always said she had a good life. And she did! She not only traveled the world, but lived around the world including Holland, Cameroon, Iran, Venezuela, Norway, Scotland, and England with her family. In her later years she lived in Corpus Christi, Andrews, Seminole, and Lubbock. Her life became even more enriched for she lived to enjoy not only her 5 grandchildren, but also her 9 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren.

Besides traveling, she also enjoyed cooking, canning, painting, playing bridge, square dancing, spending time with her friends, and reading, especially her bible. Her bible traveled with her around the world and stayed with her to the very end. Another favorite past time was her gardening. She enthusiastically enlightened the new members of her family with her love for flowers. The planting, growing, pruning and finally enjoying the results!

Janie Hollowell is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bobby; and her two brothers, Eddie Gail Stewart and Jimmie Mac Stewart.

She is survived by her former husband, Carl Hollowell of Kerrville, Texas; son, Jimmy Gail Hollowell and wife, Ruth of Portland, Texas; daughter, Carla Ralynn Winston of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Emily Jane Winston Sales and husband, Jason of Lubbock, Texas, Joseph Glenn Winston of Dallas, Texas, Jimmy Gail Hollowell, Jr and Samantha Torres of Houston, Texas, Ann Marie Hollowell Maikoetter and husband, Jerry of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Elaine Octavia Hollowell Boring and husband, Paul of Littlefield, Texas. She is also survived by her great grandchildren that she loved and cherished, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she also loved dearly.

She was a wise and courageous woman who could often be heard saying “This too shall pass!” We will always remember Gran in our hearts and never forget her love of God, her family, her country, Texas and Elvis!

There will be a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in honor of our loved one.
