Blas “George” Hernandez, Sr., 84, of Andrews passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019 in Andrews.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 201 NE 2nd Street, in Andrews with Catarino Jaquez, brother in law, officiating. Interment followed in the Andrews West Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 – 7 PM on Sunday at McNett Funeral Home. Blas was born on February 3, 1935 in Pecos, Texas to Sabas Hernandez and Refugia Pallanes Hernandez. He was raised in Pecos and Petrolia and moved to Kermit. He married Senaida “Sandy” Jaquez on November 27, 1955 in Kermit. He had worked for Teledyne Exploration Company as head mechanic and operator. He had worked for Big Lake Electric with his son for 5 years.

They moved to Andrews in 1969, where he had worked at the Andrews County Golf Course for 25 years and at Kirby West for 1 year. He enjoyed horse racing, loved animals and especially his dogs, spending time with his family, singing to his grandchildren and watching them in their sports.

He loved to work all the time and tinker around with many things and projects. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Adan Hernandez, and 12 siblings. He was a past member of McKinney Acres Baptist Church in Andrews and current member of Prim-era Iglesia Bautista in Andrews.

Blas is survived by his wife, Senaida “Sandy” Hernandez of Andrews, 4 sons, Blas Pallanes Hernandez, Jr. and wife, Helena, of Andrews, Donny Hernandez and wife, Tammie, of Andrews, Joey Hernandez and wife, KayLynn of Big Lake, and Michael Hernandez of Andrews, 15 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Primera Iglesia Bautista, 300 NE 4th Street, in Andrews.
