Sam Curtis Chambliss

Sam Curtis Chambliss age 93 passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, surrounded by family in Snyder, TX where he resided with his granddaughter Brandi. Curtis was born on January 18th, 1929 to Sam and Lucile Chambliss in Brownfield, TX. He was a resident of Andrews for 67 years. He was employed at the Andrews post office and retired in 1992. While employed he enjoyed training horses and was Jockey on the weekends. He enlisted in the Army Air-Corp back in 1946 and was discharged in April 1949, but was called for duty August 1950-1951.

Curtis loved to attend grandchildren and great grandchildren sporting events come rain or shine. He enjoyed visiting the casino and horse races every chance he got. He especially liked shooting craps with his grandchildren and he had the privilege to teach most of his great grandchildren his skills on the table. He loved setting down and telling old stories while surrounded by his family. He was fortunate enough to have spent time with his great-great grandchildren Cohen and Nova while living with his granddaughter. The time the three of them spent together will forever be cherished.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Andrews, son Eddie Chambliss and Karron of Sweeney TX, daughter Cheryl Dossey of Snyder, TX, brother Clyde Chambliss of Brownfield, TX, sister Sammy Skains and Louise Gardener of Brownfield, TX, granddaughter Brandi Benavides and husband Jamie of Snyder, TX, grandsons Brandon Hobbs of Snyder, TX, Sam Chambliss and wife Tina of Sweeney, TX, and Ethan Chambliss of Sweeny, TX, great granddaughter Kimberlee Holley and husband Tye of Lubbock, TX, Baylee and Charlie jo Hobbs of Madill, OK, great grandsons Christopher Benavides and Lauren of Big Spring, TX, Chandler Benavides and Brylee of Sanger, TX, Ben Chambliss of Sweeney, TX, Braydon and Braxton Hobbs of Andrews, TX, and Kolt Hobbs of Madill, OK, great-great grandson Cohen Holley of Lubbock, TX, great-great granddaughter Nova Benavides of Big Spring, TX and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mona Chambliss of 56 years, son Dennis Chambliss, brothers Olan and JA Chambliss Parents Sam and Lucille Chambliss.

Visitation was on Friday, August 26th from 5pm-9pm at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, TX. Graveside services were held on Saturday, August 27th at 10:00am at Andrews West Cemetery.

Pall bearers are his grandchildren Sam Chambliss, Ethan Chambliss, Brandon Hobbs, and great grandchildren Christopher Benavides, Chandler Benavides and Tye Holley. Honorary pallbearer: Cohen Curtis Holley.
