R.J. “Joe” Hestand, 86, of Andrews passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 6, 2019 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Pastor Josh Morris of the First Assembly of God Church in Andrews, officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Joe was born on December 26, 1932 in Tioga, Texas to Glen Hestand and Edith Susie Johnson Hestand. He was raised in Tioga and graduated from Tioga High School in 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 – 1955. He married Peggy Laverne Aubrey on December 10, 1964 in Snyder, and they moved to Andrews in 1966. He had worked as a driller for over 40 years, breaking in most of his family in the business. He had worked for Cactus Drilling, MGF Drilling, and Patterson Drilling. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, Ford tractors, and listening and watching sports on TV, especially baseball and softball. He was the hardest working man his family knew, and he loved being around his family. He had loved being around his dog, Yogi, and cats, Dopey and Bashful. He was Pentecostal and was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe is survived by his wife, Peggy Hestand of Andrews, 4 sons, James Buchanan and wife, Sylvia, of Brownfield, Stoney Buchanan and wife, Dana, of Stanton, Joe Glen Hestand and wife, Debbie, of Andrews, and Thomas Hestand and wife, Tonya, of Snyder, 2 daughters, Charlotte Varnado and husband, Greg, of Walker, LA and Cynthia Orson and husband, Kenny, of Andrews, 2 brothers, Douglas Hestand of Tioga and Jerry Hestand and wife, Betty, of Andrews, 2 sisters, Norma Bradford of Aubrey and Lola Simmel and husband, Clifford, of Arlington, 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
