Marvin Leon Friemel

Marvin Leon Friemel, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, in McKinney, TX, at the age of 85. Born on November 28, 1938, in Anton, TX, Marvin’s life was a testament to his unwavering strength, love for his family, and commitment to his church and community.

Marvin grew up in a close-knit family and was the beloved son of Alfred and Annie Friemel. He was predeceased in death by his devoted wife of almost 58 years, Kathryn E. Friemel. Their legacy continued through their sons, Mark Friemel of Oktaha, OK and Randy Friemel and his wife Susie of Allen, TX. Marvin’s spirit will be carried on by his six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Herbert Friemel and Paul Dean Friemel, and his sister, Hilda Coldewey.

For 38 and a half years Marvin dedicated himself to his career at Phillips Petroleum. He began his career as a roustabout and, through his exemplary work ethic and leadership, worked his way up to plant supervisor and eventually area superintendent.

Marvin was very committed to his church and the mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as a bi-vocational music minister and youth minister at First Baptist Church in Goldsmith, TX. After moving to Andrews that commitment continued with teaching a High School Boys Sunday School class, singing in the adult choir, and serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Andrews. He also participated in missions work in Presidio, TX.

Spending time in the mountains surrounding Eagle Nest, New Mexico was one of Marvin’s favorite pastimes. He and his family vacationed there for 20+ years, camping in Cimarron Canyon, in either a tent or converted orange school bus. While there, Marvin could be found driving his bright orange Jeep on the nearby trails, leading music at the tent revivals or fishing on Eagle Nest Lake.

Known as a top-notch mechanic and an allaround handyman, Marvin was the go-to person for fixing just about anything. His expertise and willingness to help others were characteristics that endeared him to many. His hands were rarely still, as he was always working on a project or lending his skills to friends and family.

Marvin’s life was one of purpose and joy. He approached every day with a sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room. His presence was a comfort and his guidance a pillar for those who knew him.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Marvin’s life at 10:00AM, Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brant O’Connor officiating. Pallbearers will include Zachary Friemel, Derek Friemel, Joshua Friemel, Jacob Friemel, Roger Linton, and Pat Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers are Grant Savage, Mike Moore and Garry Evans. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, August 30, 2024, at McNett Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Andrews.
