Leilafaye Hicks Bearden

Leilafaye Hicks Bearden was born July 3, 1923 in Floydada, Texas to Dr. Isaac Wilson Hicks and Mary Adele Ford Hicks. She passed away on June 14, 2022 in Dallas, Texas with family at her side, just weeks from her 99th birthday.

Faye, as she was known, attended Wayland Baptist College and Texas Tech University before marrying the love of her life, James Leighton Bearden, on March 21, 1945. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before Jimmie’s passing in 1998.

His career took them from Levelland, TX to Andrews, TX where Faye lived until moving to the DFW area in 2004.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Leighton Bearden (Donna) of Loveland, CO; daughter, DeLane Kuban of Fort Worth, TX; and daughter, Karen Sandlin (Lee) of Dallas, TX. She was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Kuban. Grandchildren include Stacy Bearden Zavala (Felipe), Steven Bearden, Jef Bearden (Carolina), Matt Sandlin (Jessica), Megan Sandlin Batsell (Dusty), Zachary Lucado (Jenny) and Jared Lucado (Whitney) along with 9 great-grandchildren.

A woman of great faith, Faye chose to live a life of joy, even in the face of challenging circumstances. Her sweet smile was her trademark, and her love for her family and friends was boundless. Her quiet dignity and strength were an inspiration to many.

The family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Village North, especially Joyce Hall, where Faye resided until her death.

Also, the staff and physicians at Texas Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Hamon Bldg. 4th floor; and the angels on earth at T. Boone Pickens Faith Hospice Center. The family will gather at a later date in Andrews, TX to remember her wonderful life. Memorials can be made to T. Boone Pickens Center/Faith Presbyterian Hospice at www.forefrontliving.org/donate-now, or the ALS Foundation, www.ALS.org. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21.
