Knoxine Campbell Clack passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at home in Odessa, Texas, after a brief illness. She had celebrated her 95th birthday three weeks earlier at a gathering of family and friends at La Bodega Restaurant.

Knoxine was born in Anson, Texas, on January 23, 1928 to Knox Campbell and Grace Pearce Campbell. She lived in various cities and towns in Texas during her youth, but claimed the sheep ranch in Talpa, Coleman County, Texas as home. Graduating from high school at the age of 16, Knoxine attended college at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Chemistry and a double minor in English and Latin. After graduating from college at the age of 19, she went on to teach at Sterling City before moving to Andrews where she met and married James Harold Clack and they subsequently raised their three children, Gene, Cynthia, and Steve.

She valued education, so while teaching she also obtained her Master’s Degree in counseling from Sul Ross University and obtained additional postgraduate specialization in reading. Her last years of teaching were in Andrews where she was the sixth-grade reading teacher in Middle School.

Her greatest love was her family and friends. Knoxine made lifelong friends throughout her life, and she loved them dearly.

After retiring from teaching, Knoxine traveled throughout the world to places she always wanted to go including England, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Mexico, South and Central America, China, Russia, the Arctic, Antarctic, and much of the United States and Canada.

After moving to Odessa in 2001, Knoxine volunteered and participated in multiple organizations and clubs including the Ellen Noel Art Museum, Book Clubs, Odessa Regional Hospital Auxiliary, the Pan American Club, Saint Luke’s Methodist Church in Midland, First Methodist Church in Odessa, and Westminster Presbyterian Church of Odessa, and participated in feeding the homeless.

The day before she passed away under the loving care of family and Hospice of Midland-Odessa, she was heard to ask: “What can I do for you, Lord?”

Knoxine is predeceased by her parents, her brother Thomas Campbell, her sister Elizabeth Roy, her son Gene Clack and her former husbands James H. Clack and Oscar Halsell.

Knoxine is survived by her daughter Cynthia Clack and partner Randall Shafer of Odessa; her son Steve Clack and wife Nelwyn of Kerrville; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Clack of Canyon; her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren Emily Wu and Roy Shaver; Landon and Jenna Clack, Andrew, Neely and Campbell; Justin and Callie Clack, Tyler, Parker, Lawson, Cullen and Rylan; Chris Clack and his family; Jeff and Jordan Clack and Jentri; James and Kaila Clack and Sawyer; April and Jeremy Hunley, Shelby and Addison; John and Kay Hirrill and Ty; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. David Shafer and his wife, Debbie, Roni Thornton, and the employees of Hospice of Midland-Odessa, who helped so graciously and tremendously in Knoxine’s last days and hours.

A visitation will be held at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life at Cynthia Clack’s home in Odessa.

The family requests that in lieu on flowers, donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, Basin PBS, or the charity of your choice.
