Carl Stavley “Babe” Turner, 91, of Andrews passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in Andrews.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at a Graveside service at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the Andrews West Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Hammack officiating. Interment followed.

Carl was born on October 17, 1929 in Fluvanna, Texas to Guy Turner, Sr. and Ida Wolfe. He attended Fluvanna schools and after leaving school, Carl went to work in Fort Worth making B-36 airplanes with his brother, Jack. He then worked on the family’s dairy farm before he began driving trucks in the oil field. He married Dovie Drinkard on April 5, 1954 in Snyder, Texas. Carl worked for Rental Tool and Drilling tool companies in Andrews until he started his own business, Turner Kutrite. He retired at the young age of 80! He loved real country music, hunting, golfing, going to the casino with Stumpy and in his younger days playing base guitar for 10 years in a band named “Willy McIntyre and His Family Brew”. Babe had a lifelong passion for John Wayne and his movies. He believed in honor, respect, adventure, and love for his country that John Wayne exhibited. He led his life in the same fashion. Babe later nicknamed his wife “Stumpy” after John Wayne’s sidekick in the movie Rio Bravo. Babe also loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys and considered this to be a special time to spend with his family and friends. Babe was always willing to help others without an expectation of repayment. His love for his family was pure and deep and always felt fulfillment when they were near or would come to visit. Babe was well known and had many friends in Andrews. He was admired and respected by everyone that knew him and many that did not. He will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family. Babe is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Guy Jr., Joe Allen, Jack, Billy, Paul and Ernest.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Dovie of Andrews, Texas, daughter Bonnie Rainwater and husband Malcolm of Midland, Texas, sons, Tommy Carl Turner and wife Janice of Andrews, Texas and Steven Wayne Turner of Andrews, Texas, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
