Agapito “Al” Lopez Jr., 72, of Andrews went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews with Rev. Joseph Ogbonna officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM Wednesday with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Al was born on October 3, 1948, in Sanderson, Texas to Agapito Lopez Sr. and Diamantina Garcia. He married Mary Lopez Cornejo on August 29, 1970, in Andrews, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart and built a family together. Al was a devoted father to his children and absolutely loved and adored his grandchildren. He spent all his time tending to their needs and supporting them at school events and sports. Al always led by example and even when things were the hardest reminding them to trust in the Lord. He treasured playing Santa and handing out goodie bags throughout the town of Andrews…for over 50 years! Al enjoyed playing music and being outside and was known for his brisket and barbeque cookouts. He coached softball many years and loved the Dallas Cowboys! His kind heart, laughter, great food and love of life will be greatly missed.

Agapito “Al” Garcia Lopez Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Mary Cornejo Lopez, son, Ronnie Lopez and wife Jennifer of Gardendale,Texas, sisters and brothers, Gloria Cornejo and husband Inez of Andrews, Texas, Rosa Trevino and husband Rene of Andrews, Texas, Belia Guerra and husband Jesse of Corpus Christi, Texas, Silvia Rey and husband German of Andrews, Texas, Mario Lopez and wife Cindy of Andrews, Texas, Ruben Lopez and wife Delma of Andrews, Texas, Fred Lopez and wife Angie of Seminole, Texas, Adolfo Lopez and wife Cindy of Andrews, Texas, Delma Ramirez and husband David of Liberty, Texas, half-brother Thomas and wife Terry Valdez of California, half-sister Bertha and husband Joe Herrera of California and his granddaughters Olivia Lopez, Hannah Lopez and Madelyn Lopez of Gardendale, Texas.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Ama and Apa Lopez, daughter Priscilla Lopez, grandson Spencer Lopez and sister Ida Garcia.

Active pallbearers are Kelly Cornejo, Floyd Cornejo, Joe “Bebe” Gonzalez, Rene Trevino Jr., Danny Gonzales, Shawn Bentley, Brad Cottrell, Victor Garcia, and Sergio Caldron.
