Jose Gauna Trevino, a cherished pillar of his community and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, in Andrews, Texas. Born on August 21, 1939, in General Teran, Mexico, Jose’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, love for his family, and dedication to his community.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life, at 1:00PM, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Filadelfia Assembly of God Church in Andrews, TX. He was laid to rest at the Andrews North Cemetery. A visitation was held from 5:00PM7:00PM, Wednesday, January 17, 2024, also at the Filadelfia Assembly of God Church, followed by a memorial service from 7:00PM-9:00PM. Arrangements are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home.

In 1960, Jose married the love of his life, Anita, in Mexico, and together they embarked on a journey that would see them build a beautiful family and a legacy of entrepreneurship and service. The couple moved to Andrews, Texas, in 1967, where they quickly became integral members of the community. Recognizing a need, Jose worked tirelessly to establish the first Spanish Assembly of God Church in Andrews in the late ‘60s, a feat that demonstrated his deep commitment to his faith and his fellow citizens.

Jose’s entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when he opened JGT Construction Services in 1978, a business he successfully ran until his retirement in 2013. Alongside his wife, he also opened La Hacienda in 1973, a beloved local eatery that continues to be a gathering place for the community to this day.

Jose was known for his charismatic personality; he was a character and a jokester who brought joy and laughter to those around him. His passion for music was profound, and he shared this love as a member of the Christian band Conjunto Filadelfia for over 50 years. A selftaught musician, he could skillfully play both the guitar and the saxophone, often serenading family and friends with his heartfelt melodies.

A true giver at heart, Jose was a very hard worker who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His special bond with his grandchildren was evident in every smile and embrace, a bond that will be cherished and remembered by his family for generations to come.

Jose was a dedicated sports fan, with a particular affinity for baseball and boxing. He could often be found cheering on his favorite teams and athletes, sharing his passion with his children and grandchildren, and instilling in them the same love for the sports he so enjoyed.

Jose leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Anita Trevino of Andrews, TX; sons Joe Trevino Jr. and wife Diana, Omar Trevino and wife Karina, and Vido Trevino and wife Shara, all of Andrews, TX; daughters Bertha Sanchez and husband Jose, and Edith Calvillo and husband Armando, both of Andrews, TX; brother Samuel Trevino and wife Bertha of Andrews, TX; sisters Maria Elena Arndt of Andrews, TX, Alicia Garcia and husband Valente of Andrews, TX, Esther Sanchez and husband Joel of Smithville, TX, and Melida Sandoval and husband Uriel of Andrews, TX. He was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild on the way.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Paublo and Trinidad Trevino; sister, Raquel Rodriguez; niece, Martha Trevino; and nephew, Jorge Rodriguez.

Jose Gauna Trevino’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and faith. His impact on his family and community will be felt for many years to come. He lived a life full of purpose and joy, and although he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
