Despite a field littered with 6A and 5A programs, Andrews senior Mya Jones blew away the field in the shot put, plus all three AHS relays placed in the top four, to net 38 points and lead Coach Wade Floyd’s team to a fourth-place finish at the Pirate Relays at Lubbock Cooper.
The road to the boys UIL state golf championships, set for April 29th and 30th at the Legends Golf Course in Kingsville, Texas, is still a long way off with some possible bumpy roads, but on paper – things look good for Coach Jeff Williamson’s team.
As the playoff-making fourth best team in 3-4A, the Andrews Mustangs, with senior Jett Fisher making first-team All-District and Brycen Diaz (senior) and Kade Adams (junior) earning second-team honors, ended up with the fourth most overall players honored.
Considering the strength of the field, and being one of only two 4A teams in the Tournament of Champions in Midland Thursday through Saturday, the Andrews Mustangs winning a couple of games could have been considered good!
