It’s taken a four years, but the thinking and winning between the hash-marks at Lake View High School in San Angelo have finally turned the corner and are headed the right way.
Right or wrong, the 2014 Andrews Mustangs will find out at the Mustang Bowl here Friday night when they host the 5A Chiefs in both teams’ season opener.
A year after ending a five-year playoff drought with a record-setting senior running back, coach Doug Kuhlmann and his coaching staff are looking to take another baby-step forward from what they accomplished in 2013.
And on paper, Lake View—which returns 11 starters, including six on offense—is expected to be tons better than they were a year ago. That they are expected to be much better might not be a good thing for Andrews after the Mustangs were barely able to hold on for a 32-30 win last year in San Angelo behind a late Kyle Buck interception.
The Chiefs are expected to add a few new wrinkles to their offensive and defensive looks, but things won’t change that much on either side of the ball.
