AHS’ Gustavo Vega on the last turn at the Alpine meet.

A week after a disappointing outing at the Lubbock XC Elite, the Andrews High School cross-country team had something to prove at the Big Bend Mountain Ramble in Alpine.
They proved it.
With Jacob Chapman (18:14) and Daniel Espinoza (18:33) finishing first and second individually, the AHS boys not only won the meet but in the process beat 6A Odessa High.
In the girls race, four Andrews girls placed in the top 10 on their way to a 47-point total to place second behind only Odessa High.
“The Alpine meet was a chance for the boys to re-evaluate their meet strategies and improve on specific areas of their races and they did all that and more,” said coach Michelle Richardson. “Jacob, who was the meet champion last year, ran a great race. Our boys continue to rotate around the top spot each week, which is so good for the team. Anytime you have several runners that can win a meet, you are in good position."
