The Andrews High School Student Council invites the community to participate in the Homecoming Parade by entering a float representing the many spirited aspects of our community!
The parade is set for Friday, September 20 and there are a variety of prizes up for grabs for the most spirited entries. The homecoming game opponent will be the Big Spring Steers.
The annual parade, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon, features floats from high school clubs and local community members. AHS Student Council requests that candy and gum not be thrown from parade entries to ensure the safety of the parade spectators—however, walkers may pass out candy and gum as they walk alongside their float.
All drivers of cars and trucks must possess a valid driver’s license while the operators of 4-wheelers and ATV’s must be 14 years of age.
Beginning at 3:30 pm on September 20, parade entries must check in at the intersection of Avenue D and Northwest 3rd Street.
At that time, you will be assigned your entry number and put in the correct order. The parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Avenue D and will continue on its traditional route around the courthouse back to Avenue D.
Parade prizes to be awarded to original floats will include: Sweepstakes-$50; Best Community Entry-$45; Judge’s Special Award-$35; Best Club Entry-$30; Best Decorated Car-$25; Most Humorous Entry-$20; and Most Unique Entry-$15. A committee of three local citizens with no school affiliation will make the decision on prizes. The judges will consider the originality of theme and design, execution of the theme, potential for arousing school spirit and the total effect of the float in making their decision. Winners will be announced at the football game, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. that evening at the Mustang Bowl.
Clubs, groups and community members may sign up, in person, in the Andrews High School Attendance Office from September 9-18. A representative must come to the office to fill out the official entry form and pick up the rules and regulations.
